About Robert

Happiness for me is to have friends who feel more like family and family who feel more like friends.

Robert Paulley
Poet. Songwriter. Campaigner. Socialist. Friend. Brother. Son. Robert had many attributes that enriched many of our lives. This website has been created to showcase his literary work and remember his time with us.
Written with determination and little need for sympathy, each of the poems masks the effort of creating such work by eye movement alone, and epitomises Robert's drive to create. Please, enjoy his work and share with others.

“There are always things to be thankful for if you think about life objectively.“

Robert Paulley
Robert was a dear friend to many, and we're fortunate enough that he has left us with a legacy in his words. On this site you'll find recollections in his own words, and by his friends.
We would like this site to grow as time goes on, and the immediate focus would be to complete Robert's ambition of writing his own book, which sadly he got half way through before passing.

“The deepest love I've ever known was undercooked and overblown, and when that bird had finally flown, she left behind a haunting moan.”

Robert Paulley
As Robert's illness crept up on him, and his hands and voice were affected, he used his creative ability to compose beautiful homespun poetry.
Each poem was written with software that allowed Robert to build words and sentences by using his eye to target the letters, in an often slow and careful process. Robert's work is often reflective on his life, loves and regrets.

“She told me what she wanted, it struck me with surprise, and she lit up like a lighthouse, o'er the stormy seas and skies.”

Robert Paulley
As part of a collaboration with John Elliott, Robert formed The Vintage Apollos to showcase his talent for writing with John's ability to make a melody.
The first album, Polyphony is available on iTunes and Bandcamp and features many of Robert's poems converted into songs.

“I hope you might enjoy my journeys across the British Isles, Europe, Australia, and America, as well as my personal battles with faith and across the political spectrum”

Robert Paulley
Robert left us with many stories as part of his autobiography, and these will feature along with his friend and families accounts, as people contribute.
One thing is for sure, Robert's life was full of fun, mischief, but most of all love. As a consequence of his many relationships, we hope to share many of his tales of adventure and romance.

Photography is the simplest thing in the world, but it is incredibly complicated to make it really work.
